God is Light

God is light;in him is no darkness

"This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. "


In I John 1, elder statesman John gives testimony about Jesus to assure his listeners and us of our salvation in Christ.  This first chapter deals with God is light.....remember John was an eyewitness to Jesus being transfigured before him on the mountain....Jesus was a glowing bright light before him and Peter and James. "There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light." (Matt 17:2) He could passionately speak to God being light!!!


"If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin."


Sin is darkness.  John says we are kidding ourselves if we claim to be following Jesus...and we still "waller like a pig" in sin.  There is a huge contrast between light and darkness!  But if we denounce sin and follow Jesus...walk in the light....we have assurance that Jesus' blood will purify us of our sins.


We will also be part of God's family of believers....we will be part of the family of God. Will you be a child of the light or a child of darkness?  Run to the light.  Run to Jesus.  He illuminates life.  He is the source of light and love and life.  God is light....God is love....God is life.  John will tell us about love and life in the next few chapters.
