First 26 Weeks
Week 1- Week 26

Behold the Lamb of God

The lamb of God..phrase... is used a few times in scripture.  The first time begins with Abraham conversing with his son about the faithfulness of God in Genesis 22:7-8 “The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.”

In the Genesis passage... God is providing the (lamb) sacrifice to satisfy His own requirement for Abraham. So God commands Abraham to act in faith...and in the end...it is God who is faithful...by providing the lamb to sacrifice instead of Abraham's son.

In John 1:29... John the Baptist identifies Jesus...as he spotlights the long- awaited Messiah..who would bring salvation to the world....The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

Jesus, the Messiah who was to save the world from their sins... was God's son...the ultimate gift from a loving God...prophesied from the beginning of time.  Jesus was not a Conquering King...He was a Suffering Servant.  He did not ride in on a white stallion...he rode to his death sentence on a small donkey.  He was God's Sacrificial Lamb coming to satisfy our sin debt.

Finally in the chapter 5 of Revelation John reports from Heaven... what he sees..."Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing in the center of the throne.."

Here is Jesus in the throne room of heaven...and everyone there begins to worship. They pull out the harps and sing a new song:
“You are worthy to take the scroll
   and to open its seals,
because you were slain,
and with your blood you purchased men for God
from every tribe and language and people and nation.
You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God,
and they will reign on the earth.”

This Lamb of God is Jesus.  He is as innocent as a little lamb.  His blood..His life is the sacrifice for your sin.  He loves you and me so much that He freely laid down His life as the sacrifice for our sin.  Behold, the Lamb of God...He is worthy of our worship and praise.
