"Fan into Flame"

Paul is again writing to his mentee, Timothy.  Paul and Timothy had shared life and ministry together.  They had a special bond as brothers in Christ.  Paul was writing to further instruct Timothy in the Lord.

Faith seems to be the overarching subject of this first chapter of II Timothy.  Paul starts off by reminding him of his Christian heritage, "I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also."

Then he encourages Timothy to continue to grow in his faith..."I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God." I love this metaphor of fanning a spark into a flame. If you have ever started a fire from small bits of kindling... you get the picture.  When you blow oxygen or fan the sparks....it really accelerates the fire. In the same way you would get a fire going...Paul wants Timothy to fan his faith into a full-fledged fire....that right...."on fire for the Lord".

I want to encourage you to fan your faith into flame !!!!  Don't be satisfied to be "luke warm" in the Lord.  Let the Holy Spirit set you on fire.  Let your faith burn bright in the marketplace....illuminating the way for others.
